Troop 398 News - Nov 13

POPCORN SALES
We are scheduled to pick up our popcorn orders this Saturday, Nov. 15th at 8:00 AM at 1647 Middle Tennessee Blvd.  This is at the strip center on Middle Tennessee Blvd. next to Burger King. We will be picking up 780 containers. So we will need several pick up trucks or SUVs.

We will bring the popcorn back to the Eagle's Nest where we will break down each scout's order.  Scouts can come by The Eagle's Nest and pick up their orders from 9:30 AM til noon on Sat. Those who can't make it can pick up on Monday night.

SCOUTING FOR FOOD
Bring your cans of food to the Eagle's Nest this Sat. 11/15, between 9:30 AM and noon. We will consolidate the food and deliver it to the collection point.

STONES RIVER BATTLEFIELD SERVICE PROJECT
Mr. Carey is looking for any scouts, leaders and parents who would be interested in helping him on a conservation project at Stones River Battlefield this Saturday. He will be planting around 57 trees along a fence row to help keep views of modern day building from being seen from inside the park. He will need a group around noon to help load the trees (meet at the Van Cleve Ln location ). He'll need another larger group (around 12:30) to meet on Van Cleve Ln off Murfreesboro Rd (directions below). Items you will need are Gloves and Shovels, so if you can bring them, please put your name on them so they get back with their owners.  He's hoping to have this done in 2 – 2 1/2 hours. He will have food and drinks out there.

Directions:  Van Cleve Lane is between International Paper and Murfreesboro Outdoors. Look for the Railroad crossing signs over the road and the tracks crossing Murfreesboro Rd. Van Cleve is right where the track crosses. The site is just past the entrance into the park on the right.  Call Dane Carey if you can make it or if you have any questions (615-397-3181).

NOVEMBER CAMPOUT
We will be backpacking on the
Piney River trail near Spring City Nov 22nd and 23rd. Easy downhill 6 mile hike into a campsite on the river. Then we will walk about 5 miles out (mostly downhill) on Sunday. We will meet at 6:00 AM for breakfast at Hardee's on Memorial Blvd. just past MT Christian School. We will leave from Hardee's at 6:45 AM on Saturday. We will return by 2:00 PM on Sunday. Cooking will be with a buddy or by patrols. Plan trail meals for Sat lunch and supper and Sun breakfast. Fires are permitted. Bring money for Sat breakfast and Sunday lunch.  Loner backpacks are available from the troop - see an adult or the troop quartermaster. Next Monday, all first time backpackers are to bring in their packs completely packed without food. Be sure to include at least 1 quart or 1 liter of water.  We will hand out crew gear also on Monday. Draw tents and backpacking stoves if you need them. Water is plentiful from the Piney River, but we will need to treat it before drinking. The troop has enough Polar Pure although it's a good idea to always have a supply in your personal first aid kit. Water filters are fine if you want to bring one.  For more information check out http://www.cumberlandtrail.org/piney.html
