Key West Sailing

We currently have 30 troop members signed up which requires 4 boats to accommodate everyone. At this point, we have been unable to get four boats for the week of June 19 – 26. We need to consider the possibility of breaking the sailing trip into two groups. This would allow us to accommodate everyone and would actually be more cost effective. The first group would go June 16 – 25 and the second group would go June 25 – July 3rd. We are hoping to keep the cost of this trip between $1000 - $1200 per person.

Please look at your calendars and let me know which of the two weeks would work best for you. If you could go either week, please give me your first and second choice of weeks.

We still plan to fly to Miami and rent vans to drive to Key West.

We will need a $100 deposit from everyone by January 31st.

Please plan to attend a planning meeting at 6:00 PM on Monday, January 3rd at the Eagle’s Nest.

Here is our current crew list – anyone else who wishes to sign on would go on a stand-by list and would fill in should anyone have to drop out.

December Campout – This weekend!

We will be heading out to Short Mountain once again this weekend, December 3-5. I’m not sure why we call it a camp out since we will be sleeping in a heated cabin with beds and mattresses. Plan to arrive at 5:30 PM. Plan to eat supper before you arrive. We want to leave by 6:00 PM and we will not stop enroute. We plan to return by 11:30 AM on Sunday.

We should have a good chance of snow again this year. Bring sleeping bag, warm clothes, canteen and work gloves. Saturday morning we will work on service projects – mainly clearing brush (Adults bring a chain saw if you have one or prunners if you have either). We will go hiking Sat afternoon. We will cook as a troop. Parents and other family members are invited to come up and join us for supper Sat evening. Dress warmly, the dining hall is hard to heat. Come up early enough to enjoy the view. We traditionally plan a feast featuring Prime Rib topped off by dutch oven cobblers.

The cost is estimated at $20 for all meals for the weekend or $10 for Sat. Supper only. Saturday evening we will have a Christmas devotional planned by scouts who are working on their God and Country Award. Following that there will be a gift exchange. Participation is optional, but If you want to participate in the gift exchange, bring a small, appropriate, gift (approx. $5-$10). Those who bring a gift will participate in an activity to exchange gifts. We usually play board games on Friday and Saturday nights - bring your favorite game.
