BSA Troop 398

March Campout this weekend
Our March campout is scheduled for this weekend, March 18 – 20. We will camp at Boxwell Reservation at Camp Beany Elam. We will have patrol campsites and cook by patrol. We have reserved the COPE Rappelling Tower for Sat afternoon and Sunday morning. We will meet at 5:00 PM on Friday at the Eagle’s Nest and we will return by 12:30 PM on Sunday. Fishing will also be available in the Wood Badge Pond. Mr. Wiser has promised a memorable feast for Sat. night. We may also take some time to remember and honor Tom Falana. We’re not sure about the costs due to several variables – shouldn’t be over $15, but we’ll let you know.

Summer Camp Notes
Summer Camp will be from June 12 -17(option to break camp on June 18th)
Cost is $185 if you make a $30 deposit by March 28th; $205 for late registration. See Mr. Holtman

Council Camperships are available in cases of financial need – get forms from Gore Ervin – must be turned in to Council by April 1. No one misses camp because of money in this troop!

See Gore Ervin as soon as possible to set up your class schedule and insure you get your first choices.

All campers must have a medical exam w/I the last 12 months. This should be done by all registered members whether you attend camp or not. Must use BSA Health Form. All troop members must take the BSA Swim Test annually. We will schedule Test nights in April and May.

Troop Planning Meeting
We will have a PLC at 7:00 PM next Monday night. New troop leaders should attend. If a Patrol Leader can’t make the meeting, send a Patrol representative. If you need a Board of Review that night, let me know and I’ll pass it along.

Congratulations
Two of our leaders received the Trail of Tears District’s highest award, The Long Rifle, at the annual Awards Banquet. Congratulations to Dane Carey and Jeff White for this recognition of their service to youth in the Scouting Program. In addition, Troop 398 was recognized as a Quality Unit for 2010.

High Adventure 2012
We are planning to travel to Somers High Adventure Base near Ely, Minnesota and spend 8 days paddling in the Boundary Waters and the Quitico Provincial Park in Ontario, Canada. We will make reservations for either late June or early July 2012. The cost will be $1,000 to $1,200. The minimum age is 13 by the date of the trip. Participants must be able to carry a 60 pound pack for ¾ mile and pass the BSA Swim Test. Canoeing merit badge is required for Scouts. Email me if you are interested or sign up on the Interest Survey posted on the bulletin board. Please indicate your preference of dates (late June or early July). This is not a firm commitment – it just gives me an idea of the number of crews we might need when reservations open on April 1, 2011.
